There is much more but this is a short start. There are very many questions. Where is Charles Ripley buried? (He died in Grass Lake). Where did his wife Diana go for the next ten years? Did she remarry? Where did she die and get buried? Where and when did Asa Ripley Jr and his wife die and where were they buried? If I am wrong, then what family could Charles have come from?
The was a Preserved Ripley in the family of Asa Ripley Sr in New York. Most places refer to the Preserved as a female, but I found that to be incorrect. Asa Ripley Sr stated in an application for veterans pay, that his mess mate in the Revolutionary War was his brother Preserved. I found Preserved living near his father in New York, with a wife and two children, but have not been able to find anything further. The children of this Preserved, would have been about the correct age to be parents for Charles. What if's???
I have found many of the families related to the Asa Ripleys. Many of them established homes during the 1840"s in southern Michigan. I have traced some of these familes to the present time.
I hope that another Ripley comes along one day and is able to build upon the work that I have done and can find the missing proof to connect Charles and his sibblings to Asa Ripley Jr., who I truly believe to be their father. I'm now 65 years old so my search goes on.
April 29, 2003. Pamelia Ripley, born about 1818, wife of Alfred Harris Sr., has been confirmed as the sister of Charles Ripley, as was our belief. One of Charles Ripleys daughters had sent a photograph to Pamelia, where it was found in her possessions. Never giving up is a key here. Always keep looking.
